A Comprehensive Guide from EasyLiving
Every year, Florida’s hurricane season tests our resilience—and our readiness. For seniors and their families, preparedness is more than just a checklist. It’s peace of mind. It’s knowing someone is looking out for you when the wind picks up and the power goes out.
At EasyLiving, we’ve supported seniors through every major storm since 1998. As a trusted provider of care management, home care, and skilled nursing services across Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, and Polk counties, we’re committed to helping families prepare, respond, and recover with confidence.
This Florida guide outlines how we prepare internally, how families can prepare at home, and where to turn for help in your community. Whether you’re planning ahead or facing an approaching storm, we hope you’ll bookmark and share this resource.
How EasyLiving Prepares for Florida Hurricanes
When a named storm threatens our region, we activate our Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan to ensure continuity of care and clear communication. Here’s what we do:
-
Contact all care partners and clients to confirm schedules and prepare for potential changes.
-
Coordinate with each county’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to stay up to date on evacuations, shelter options, and road closures.
-
Pre-plan for care delivery adjustments, including rescheduling services before or after the storm when appropriate.
-
Maintain 24/7 availability for emergencies, updates, and client needs.
-
Invest in infrastructure to stay connected. We’ve equipped our office with Starlink satellite internet so that even if phone lines or local internet go down, our team remains operational and reachable throughout the storm.
We prepare for the worst so our clients and their families can focus on staying safe.

Managing Stress and Staying Connected
Storms bring more than wind—they bring uncertainty and stress. We recommend:
-
Setting a routine and staying in regular contact with loved ones
-
Preparing familiar entertainment (books, puzzles)
-
Accessing telehealth or mental health support if needed
-
Reassuring your loved ones by reviewing the plan and staying in communication
Where to Get Reliable Information
There’s a lot of information out there—but not all of it is accurate or helpful. We trust the following:
-
Denis Phillips’ Hurricane Prep List – a practical, no-hype approach to storms
-
Local county emergency websites (linked above)
-
FEMA and Red Cross apps
Apps like GasBuddy can help track open fuel stations during evacuations, while Alert Polk, HCFL Alert, and Alert Pasco provide timely texts and updates from local officials.
You’re Not Alone
We often say that aging wisely means planning ahead—and hurricane season is no exception.
At EasyLiving, we take that responsibility seriously. We are here not just during blue skies, but during the hardest storms too. With real-time communication, flexible care planning, and investment in tools like Starlink to keep us online when others go dark, we stand ready to support every client, every step of the way.
