Medicaid Home Care in Florida

Florida Medicaid can help pay for long-term help at home when someone qualifies — but families still have to match the right managed care plan, authorized hours, and a contracted agency. EasyLiving provides Medicaid home care in Florida through contracted plans and works with families who are comparing Medicaid with private pay, long-term care insurance, and other public programs.

This page explains how EasyLiving fits as a home-care provider. For background reading, see understanding Medicaid for long-term home-based care and what Medicaid means in the aging journey. Care management can help families understand options without promising eligibility.

Who Medicaid home care is for

Families usually reach out when a parent already has Florida Medicaid (or is applying), needs ongoing help with daily living, and wants to stay home rather than move to a facility. Others call after a hospital stay when short-term Medicare skilled visits are ending and longer-term support is still required.

This path often fits when:

  • The care recipient is enrolled in — or exploring — Florida Medicaid long-term care supports
  • Help is needed with personal care, companionship, dementia support, or similar non-medical home care
  • A case manager or plan is authorizing home-care hours through a managed care organization
  • The family also wants a clear picture of private pay, LTC insurance, VA, PACE, or Area Agency on Aging options

Florida Medicaid plans EasyLiving contracts with

EasyLiving is contracted with these Florida Medicaid managed care plans for home care:

  • Sunshine Health
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • Simply Healthcare
  • Humana
  • Aetna Medicaid
  • Florida Community Care

Plan networks and authorization rules change. We confirm current contract status and whether a specific service authorization fits your loved one’s plan during the consultation. We do not create separate marketing pages for each MCO — one EasyLiving team works across these contracted options.

How care works with EasyLiving

  1. Confirm plan and needs. Tell us which Medicaid plan is on the card and what is hard at home.
  2. Assessment. We review safety, ADLs, cognition, and family support so the requested hours match real risk.
  3. Authorization pathway. When the plan must authorize services, we coordinate the agency side of documentation. The plan and state rules decide final hours.
  4. Matched Care Partners. Licensed Care Partners start under a written plan, with supervision as needs change.

Other payment paths families often use alongside or instead of Medicaid: flexible private pay, long-term care insurance (we accept all policies), Area Agency on Aging programs, and PACE when eligible. EasyLiving is also contracted with the VA for veterans who qualify.

Covered vs. not — and the Medicare Advantage note

Medicaid long-term care supports may cover personal care and related home-care services when authorized. What is approved depends on level-of-care criteria, plan rules, and the service authorization — not on a website checklist.

Important distinctions:

  • Traditional Medicare generally does not pay for ongoing non-medical home care or companion care. Short-term skilled home health is different and time-limited.
  • Medicare Advantage is not automatic home-care coverage. Some members have supplemental benefits; others do not. EasyLiving currently works with Medicare Advantage relationships for Aetna and Humana where plan benefits and contracts allow — still not a guarantee that a given member’s plan pays for companion care.
  • EasyLiving is not positioning itself as traditional Medicare skilled home-health in the “Medicare pays for home care” sense families often expect.

Care management helps families map which benefit is which before they turn down help that could have been covered — or wait for a benefit that does not exist.

Steps to start

  1. Schedule a Consultation and share the Medicaid plan name on the card.
  2. Bring recent authorization letters or case-manager contacts if you have them.
  3. Complete the EasyLiving assessment and agree on a care plan that matches authorized (or privately funded) hours.
  4. Start Care Partners when approvals and staffing align. Ask about private-pay bridge hours if waiting puts safety at risk.

FAQ

Which Medicaid plans does EasyLiving accept?

We are contracted with Sunshine, UnitedHealthcare, Simply Healthcare, Humana, Aetna Medicaid, and Florida Community Care. Confirm your plan during the consultation — networks can change.

Does Medicaid approval happen automatically after we call?

No. Eligibility, level of care, and authorized hours are determined through Florida Medicaid and the managed care plan. EasyLiving provides care once we are able to serve under that authorization or another agreed payment path.

Can we mix Medicaid with private pay or LTC insurance?

Sometimes families use private pay or long-term care insurance for hours the plan does not authorize, or while waiting. We will explain practical options without inventing coverage.

What about Medicare Advantage (Aetna or Humana)?

Medicare Advantage is separate from Florida Medicaid. Having an Aetna or Humana Medicare Advantage plan does not automatically mean home care is covered. Ask us to check benefits and contracts for your specific plan ID.
