Here are some fun current events in Tampa Bay and things to do indoors to stay cool during the hot Florida months:
This week is Shark Week at the Tampa based Florida aquarium, with several special activities included in the regular admission price. Here is some information and insider tips about the Florida Aquarium, a little gem in downtown Tampa.
Do you enjoy the arts? We have a pretty great arts scene in Tampa Bay. If you haven’t been to the Dali museum since it moved to its new digs, it is well worth a trip. We also have great theater in Tampa Bay. This month at American Stage Theater in St. Pete you can see My Name is Asher Lev. They have Wednesday night matinées at a special price of $29.
Pinellas County has some great senior centers and you’d be shocked by how many different activities they offer. From exercise to computer classes to special events and dances, there’s always something happening. The Dunedin Hale Senior Center offers a monthly newsletter of all the activities offered. Check out the Gulfport Senior Center’s Activity Calendar here. The city of Largo, Florida has a huge new Largo Community Center offering activities for all ages, a fitness room, art studio, card room and much more. Consider checking out some of the exercise programs offered at these centers. Check with your doctor for clearance, but many of these programs can provide a big boost to your health even if you have not exercised in a while. Tai Chi is great for balance and strengthening can really help you prevent falls.
Want to enjoy some movies for a steal? Every Tuesday and Wednesday during the summer, area Regal movie theaters shows select G and PG-rated movies for $1. Muvico theaters also does a free summer film fest every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These may be geared towards kids out of school for the summer, but they’re great for any kid at heart.
Are you a baseball fan? Want to go beyond just seeing a game? Check out the behind-the-scenes Tropicana Field ballpark tour. It is $8 for seniors 65 and older and wheelchair-accessible. You can call 1-888-326-7297 for more information and reservations.
